Modern Chiropractic

Modern chiropractic focuses on correcting two problems in the body: misalignment and compression.

Misalignment

Your body has a natural design and alignment that allows healthy movement. When you fall out of alignment, your body doesn't move properly and problems arise. An aligned body is efficient, strong, coordinated and resilient. A misaligned body compromises function, resulting in weakness, imbalance, pressure, and eventually, pain and symptoms.

Modern chiropractors use a variety of techniques to gently manipulate the body back to an aligned state. All bodies are different - so your chiropractor will discuss which technique is most appropriate for you. Personal preference is also taken into account: some people enjoy stronger techniques and others more gentle therapy.

Chiropractic care should be effective without being painful or aggravating your condition.

Compression

Your body has a natural elasticity - like a spring. Normally, after tissues compress, they naturally decompress to a balanced and relaxed state. However, faulty movement or excessive demand can interrupt the natural decompression process. Subsequently, tissues become trapped in a tightened state that results in dysfunction and pain.

Decompression techniques help tissues regain lost elasticity and create more space in the joints.

Cranial & TMJ Therapy

Cranial therapy is treatment to the skull and TMJ therapy is treatment to the jaw.

Cranial Therapy

Your cranium (or skull) is not simply one block of bone - it is several flat bones that carefully articulate with one another. The bones of the skull are called cranial bones and attach to one another through strong fibrous joints called sutures.

Like any bone or joint in the body, cranial bones can experience functional misalignment and tightness. Cranial 'faults' are areas of pressure and tension in the skull that can be associated with pain or symptoms, including:

- Headaches and Migraines

- 'Fogginess', 'dullness', and 'heaviness' in the head

- Poor concentration and lack of mental clarity

- Difficulty with sleeping and 'switching off'

Cranial therapy uses gentle, low-force counter-pressure to correct cranial faults. Most patients feel more relaxed for having it done; it usually feels like a head massage.
